The day has come to say goodbye to Latin America and what a sad day it is. Yes we are really excited about the next stage of our journey but we are also feeling nostalgic about the many months that we have spent travelling around Mexico, Central and South America. No it hasn’t always been easy, like when we got robbed in Costa Rica, when we got stalked by a taxi driver in Peru or when our bus kept getting stuck in Bolivia, but it has always been fun!! Adventure is never far away in Latin America and it has been a great host to us since we began our trip on 7th October. We can´t believe that we spent just under 6 months there, a month more than we even planned to. Although when you consider everything that we have done in the past 6 months it is no surprise that the time flew by so quickly….we experienced tropical heat to freezing high altitude cold, we snorkelled in the warm Caribbean sea and shivered on the summit of a 6088m snowy mountain, we swam with sharks and almost burnt our feet on flowing hot lava from a recent volcanic eruption, we climbed glaciers and volcano boarded down steep slopes, we visited ancient ruins and quad biked in Patagonia, we bathed in natural thermal pools and marvelled at the Panama Canal, we hiked in some of the most famous parks in the world and stayed in some of the most remote parts of Bolivia, we visited the most southern city in the world and also the worlds highest city, we got up close to wild Bolivian llamas and saw wild dolphins only feet away, we went white water rafting on grade 4 rapids and horse riding in the driest desert in the world, we saw pink lakes and white salt planes, we hiked in the jungle and in the lost Inca world, we ate fresh coconuts and mangos on the Caribbean coast and grasshoppers in central Mexico, we wandered among snakes and got right up beside some penguins, we were just miles away from the Antarctic and we stood at the centre of the world…..and that’s not even the half of it!!!! We have also met some great people over the past months, who of course made all of the above even more fun.
So its goodbye to Latin America, and New Zealand here we come…..lets see if the Kiwis can show us as good a time as the Latinos did………………….
